Episode 170- There's No Business Like Snow Part 1

WARNING: There will be no wank. I know these episodes are tetchy for some. We will not allow character bashing in the comments. Please keep the discussion civil.

Okay, I don't like these episodes on the whole, but I forgot just how amazingly hilarious the first part of this three parter is!

We start off learning a professional snowboarder will be at a nearby (but not local) snow lodge signing autographs. Billy apparently likes snowboarding, while Ernie wouldn't be caught dead there. Tommy is lifting weights and he's halfway through his last set when he receives an OMINOUS letter from Kim. Why she mailed it to the Youth Center I have NO clue. But whatever. He doesn't want to stop so he asks Adam to read it to him. AND HE DOES.

Kim has found somebody new. She's breaking up with him. She no longer has feelings for him, but sees him as a brother... which makes up hope she's doing this because she's discovered she's a lesbian (or at the very least bisexual). She does it in a nice way, I suppose, though a phone call would have gone over better since she couldn't do it face to face. Tommy is all heartbroken. Tommy is heartbroken and goes to mope.

And we get the best BAD MONTAGE. Seriously, it's like the worst fanvid ever, complete with disturbingly cheesy BAD music. I LOVE IT SO.

Kat tries to cheer Tommy up, but it's of no use. So Billy has an idea. He's going to take them to the snow lodge so Tommy can go snowboarding. That should cheer him up! Maybe. I mean, his long time first serious girlfriend JUST dumped him... that HURTS. A LOT. Snowboarding can't really fix that. I never thought I'd say this, but I actually feel bad for Tommy! Will wonders never cease?

So at the snow lodge, Billy and Tommy are ready to get out in THE GLORIOUS SNOW, but Kat is still adjusting to the cold, so she hangs out with some hot chocolate for awhile. She sees some cogs, whom nobody else seems to realize aren't actual people, and so instead of using her communicator, she just follows them.

Meanwhile, Tommy's heartbreak has given Mondo an idea. He pulls out RoboCupid and sends her down to Angel Grove to put a spell on all the humans to make them fall in love with machines. She accidentally puts the spell on herself first and falls in love with Clank. It's WONDERFUL! I love that scene. She hugs him and snuggles him and I just love Monsters in Love.

She has to get to work, though, and she is efficient! Bulk and Skull both fall in love with the motorcycle! Ernie falls in love with his blender! Lt. Stone brings FLOWERS to an arcade game! People are in love with TOASTERS! FRAKIN TOASTERS!

Rocky, Tanya, and Adam know something is wrong. They're training for something (and boys sparring is PRETTY) but they don't know quite what's wrong. They aim to find out, but that's not really focused on much.

Back at the snow lodge, Professional Snowboarder Heather has convinced Tommy and Billy to go down the super-expert Widowmaker with her. They cave. Peer pressure is BAD, you guys. Kat, meanwhile, has chased the cogs down the same route. They have removed the CLIFF WARNING signs. Kat morphs and fights them, but they run off with the signs. She is able to warn Tommy and Billy, but Heather can't stop in time and goes over the cliff. Oh noes!

To Be Continued...

4 fish. It wasn't too bad, and while I'm ecstatic to have Billy back, I really wish he'd left the fish on Aquitar. The only thing that saved this episode was Lt. Stone bringing flowers to an arcade game and PEOPLE WERE IN LOVE WITH TOASTERS YOU GUYS! *snuggles it so*

I hate to say this but I actually REALLY want the fic where one of the Rangers shows up in Florida to talk to Kim.

Because really, it should exist.

NOTE - I do not want to read (yet another) version where a) it turns out Kat has actually sent the letter in a conspiracy to steal Tommy b) it turns out Skull sent the letter in a conspiracy to steal Kim c) Kim sent the letter because something awful happened to her and she doesn't want Tommy to have to share in her pain or d) Kim is a giant bitch who callously broke Tommy's heart.

Basically, there has to be a version somewhere where two of them (even Tommy and Kim) sit down and actually have a rational conversation, right? RIGHT?

...Don't give me any ideas. :|

*gives you ideas*

:DDDDDDDDDDDDD

I think this might be the fic: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/875286/1/Acceptance

Not quite? I was hoping for reaction to the letter fic, although that's probably how the breakup should have gone.

I still mostly like the idea of Kim initiating it because she realizes that Tommy isn't what she wants from her life any longer.

First fic that popped into mind when I read it. *shrugs*

I want to comment on other stuff, but my mind is blanking out lol.

I actually wrote a fic were Katherine realizes that the "happily ever after" she wanted was what Tommy and Kimberly had had and she breaks up with him.

I think its something that happens to us all. We see a realtionship and covet that dedication and love but realize not all relationships are the same. In regards to Tommy and Katherine I never felt the bond form that did between Tommy and Kimberly.

They have a rational conversation in Earthsiege, although it's tangential to the main plot.

So I know the overall point of this episode is to set up future Tommy/Kat for our poor viewing audience. But really, the whole episode just makes me ship Billy with both of them.
20th-Jan-2011 03:11 am (UTC)
They should have a threesome. I would be ok with that.

LOL, I remember watching this trilogy WAAAY last year.

The actress for Heather is actually the same one for Kaitlin of VR Troopers, which a certain future event...interesting.

And years ago, I found this ship manifesto for Kat/Tommy that I found slightly interesting. Warning, spoilers for the rest of Zeo, Turbo, and vague ones for Dinothunder: http://community.livejournal.com/ship_manifesto/85658.html

20th-Jan-2011 03:12 am (UTC)
Ahahaha I want the crossover where she is secretly Kaitlin now. Oh, VR Troopers. :D

I think the best part of this whole episode is Rocky's line when they discover everyone in love with the machines:

"Guys, this is weird...even for Angel Grove."

But really, this whole three-parter felt far too drawn out and filler-ish. I'd like to think they could've come up with something better to end the Tommy/Kim thing and set up Tommy/Kat.
20th-Jan-2011 03:12 am (UTC)
Seriously, the episodes are just... not actually very good. Unfortunately.

*hits head against keyboard*
Five Fish..just fish every where.

Did anyone notice that Katherine is wearing a freaking sweater with a GIANT red star on it? So now they are branding her future girlfriend of Tommy?

Kat.. I do try to like you but you really don't make the best choices at times do you?
20th-Jan-2011 03:14 am (UTC)
Ahahaha yeah, that sweater is ridiculous. Subtle, they are not.

A while ago, I came up with the idea that Kim wrote the letter because she found out that her ancestor may have had babies with the White Stranger and got all squicked out. It still doesn't really make that much sense in the context of the letter, but CONTINUITY!

On a semi-related note, I was VERY close to putting Ernie/Blender and Lt. Stone/Arcade machine from this episode into my Love Somebody vid a couple months ago.

YOU TOTALLY SHOULD HAVE!!!! They were seriously the BEST part of this episode arc! Ernie was so gentle when he was caressing that blender. And Lt. Stone! With the flowers! Oh man, when the spell broke, he snatched up those flowers and huffed off as if he were a jilted lover. It was AMAZING.
20th-Jan-2011 03:19 am (UTC)
That vid is AMAZING. (All of your vids are - I don't think I've ever mentioned that to you before!)

And I approve of that reason. :)

I remember my tweenaged self frothing at the mouth during these episodes. I hadn't watched it again until last month. It's not as bad as I remembered, but I'm still not pleased with it.

I feel like the breakup could have been handled better, and it bugged me that Adam kept reading the letter when it got to the breakup part. I mean, he couldn't just say, "Um, you might want to read this in private", or something?
20th-Jan-2011 03:20 am (UTC)
Adam was a total jackass for reading the letter out loud at ALL. And Tommy was ridiculous for asking him to read a letter from his GIRLFRIEND out loud.
20th-Jan-2011 03:23 am (UTC)
And let's not forget the icing on the cake of fail- the letter was sent to the juice bar in the first place. What was up with that? I find it hard to believe that Kim doesn't know Tommy's address.
20th-Jan-2011 05:24 am (UTC)
Did you look at the adress? LOL It said from California, Florida!
20th-Jan-2011 06:08 am (UTC)
I hadn't noticed! Now I have to go look for it.
21st-Jan-2011 03:50 pm (UTC)
SERIOUSLY.

It makes no sense for Kim to have sent it to the youth center unless she was deliberately trying to embarrass him in public, and I don't buy that at all.

(And ahhaha I need to get a screencap of the address)
12th-Jan-2011 11:27 pm (UTC)
Screw this episode. That is all. =(

I actually liked the Tommy/Kim pairing...until this episode. It made sad. Kimberly broke poor Tommy's heart. And through a letter. She could've talked to him over the phone. And then they made him have flashbacks as start crying. It's too much.

Adam was an idiot for reading the letter out loud. When he noticed the direction it was going, he should have stopped. But then again, when he did stop, Tommy continued to read it out loud so I guess he doesn't care.
